Frequently Asked Questions

How many CFM do I need to ventilate a crawl space or basement?

For most residential crawl spaces and basements, you want a fan that can cycle the room's full air volume every few minutes. To estimate it, multiply the square footage by the ceiling height to get cubic feet, then pick a fan that moves that volume quickly. Maxx Air confined space ventilators are built to move high volumes of air in tight, low-access areas, and they run as either an intake or exhaust fan depending on whether you're pushing fresh air in or drawing stale air out. Larger spaces call for a higher CFM rating, so match the fan's airflow to the size of the area you need to ventilate.

What is this confined space ventilator fan best used for, and why axial?

Confined space ventilator fans are built to move fresh air into, and stale or humid air out of, tight, low-access areas like basements, crawl spaces, and attics. They move a large volume of air efficiently, which makes them well suited to general ventilation and air exchange in spaces that would otherwise stay stagnant. Maxx Air confined space ventilators feature hose-ready housings (hose sold separately) so the same fan can work as both an intake and an exhaust source, directing fresh air deep into a space or pulling stale air out. Their portable design, heavy-duty carry handles, and tool-free setup make them easy to move from job to job and position exactly where airflow is needed, helping prevent mold and mildew in areas affected by flooding or water leaks.

Is a ventilation fan or an exhaust fan better for a basement or crawl space?

You don't have to choose. A confined space ventilator does both. Run it as a ventilation fan to push fresh air into a space, or as an exhaust fan to draw stale, humid, or stagnant air out, by attaching a hose (sold separately) to the appropriate end of the housing. For basements and crawl spaces prone to moisture, the ability to switch between the two means you can bring in dry outside air or pull damp air out, whichever does the most to keep the space ventilated and reduce the risk of mold and mildew.

Can this fan be used as both an intake and an exhaust fan?

Yes. Maxx Air confined space ventilators work in both directions. Their hose-ready housings accept a hose (sold separately) on either end, so you can push fresh air into a space or pull stale air out of it. This makes them useful for ventilating basements, crawl spaces, attics, and other limited-access areas where you need to either bring clean air in or exhaust humid or stagnant air to create a safer working environment.

Can this fan be used outdoors or in wet areas?

Yes, with one condition. Maxx Air confined space ventilators are UL Listed for indoor or outdoor and wet-area use when plugged into a GFCI (ground-fault circuit interrupter) outlet, a standard safety measure anywhere moisture is present. This makes them a strong choice for ventilating damp spaces affected by flooding or leaks, helping move air through the area to reduce the risk of mold and mildew.
